Work-in-progress (2014-current). This project examines the use of the photograph to construct family narratives by staging family photographs in domestic scenes. The images are the opposite of what is typically included in a family album. Instead of typical milestones like birthdays, graduations, vacations, I photograph the quotidian moments in between the milestones and holidays, the dystopia of motherhood, the insular domesticity born of the physical demands of nursing, diapering, soothing, and child-care. I investigate the basic units or elementary relationships that combine to form a nuclear family. The domestic, interior, enclosed space becomes a psychological topography of motherhood.
